'Stage of Forest' is a Mysterious Mountaintop Lookout

'Stage of Forest', a ski lodge at the Songhua Lake Resort in Jilin, China, sits atop a hill where the forest transforms into a groomed run. The lookout and lodge, which was designed by META-Project, offers spectacular vistas of the surrounding mountain range, and it also gives skiers a view of the precipitous drop that awaits them.

Aside from its broad, open deck that looks out over the mountains, Stage of Forest has a porthole window embedded in its floor. This lets those in the building take a look down the ski hill to both gauge conditions and get excited for the upcoming run.

Poised on a heavy concrete base, the building's main feature is made of wood, and it cantilevers in two directions to increase that illusion of lightness.
