The Skepta x Nike 'AIR MAX 97 SK' Shoe is Inspired by the Star's Childhood

The Skepta x Nike 'AIR MAX 97 SK' shoe is set to launch globally on September 2nd, and is a fresh translation of a popular style that was recently reintroduced by the brand. Already a hit among sneaker buffs, the original re-release is revamped with a 1999 Air Tuned Max-inspired color scheme that coincides with Skepta's recent visit to Morocco. The 1999 Air Tuned Max reference also goes back to the British-Nigerian rapper's childhood, since it was the first shoe he saved up money for.

Drawing inspiration from Essaouira, a Moroccan city known for its colorful surroundings, the Skepta x Nike AIR MAX 97 SK shoe features a brighter color scheme than the grayscale original.

“Everything I wanted to feel about peace, I found it there. I like the architecture, the pastel colors, the taxis, the way that you could just go into a small little souq, open a door and it brings you into a big, massive, beautiful new world that you would never have expected," said the rapper about his trip and inspiration for the shoe.
