Rugged Fire-Proof Homes

Renée del Gaudio Architecture Designed this Colorado Home for Fire Safety

Renée del Gaudio Architecture is the brainpower behind the fire-proof colorado home dubbed Goatbarn Lane. Fire-resistant homes have increasingly become essential considerations in Colorado due to the exponential amount of forest fires in the area brought on by climate change.

Goatbarn Lane is built with defenses against wildfires such as steel siding and non-combustible roof boards. The one-bedroom residence in Boulder, Colorado, located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, reflects a minimalistic philosophy of living with no more than the essentials. The home boasts 1,860 square feet across two floors. Using steel supports, the sleeping area is lifted above the hillside and anchored into rock. Other fire-resistant elements in the house include a concrete base and a steel frame.
