Californian design studio TW Ryan Architecture completes the Four Roof House, which is a wildfire-resistant home located in a remote part of central Montana. It is defined by a Corten steel exterior with pyramidal roofs on top that are inspired by mountains. The home is owned by a couple who were looking for a low-maintenance house that they can relax and retire in. The location overlooks a lake by the town of Helmville.
TW Ryan Architecture explains, "The micro-climate of the area is known for its harsh variability, including 30-degree temperature swings, wildfires and high snowfall, relived by summer months of wildflowers and abundant wildlife." The goal was to create a rugged house that would be able to "withstand the ever-changing weather conditions, while reinforcing a refined engagement with the natural landscape of the unique site," the team continues.
