SOUR Designs a Residential Recording Studio and Boutique Hotel

— May 11, 2026 — Art & Design
SOUR has unveiled Pur, a residential recording studio and boutique hotel located on Cunda Island along Turkey's Aegean coast. This project combines vernacular masonry and timber construction with world-class acoustic engineering to create a facility capable of accommodating up to a 75-piece orchestra.

The building features a glass fiber reinforced concrete shell that marks a dramatic transition from the island's traditional architectural calm into a highly tuned recording environment, with live rooms containing sliding partitions and rotating height-adjustable ceiling panels that allow musicians to tailor reverberation times and reflection patterns for different needs. The recording studio layout boasts two echo chambers, a Dolby Atmos theater, a mastering suite, and variable acoustic surfaces.

SOUR also noted that for Pur, it engaged in a co-creation process with international and local musicians.

Trend Themes

  1. Adaptive Acoustic Architecture — A building-integrated system of movable partitions and adjustable ceiling panels enables spaces to morph acoustically to serve orchestras, soloists, and immersive audio formats within the same envelope.
  2. Modular Soundscape Engineering — Interchangeable surfaces, echo chambers and variable reverberation treatments allow tailored sonic environments that decouple room function from fixed construction constraints.
  3. Co-created Creative Hospitality — Collaborative design processes with local and international musicians produce hybrid residential-studio experiences that blend high-performance acoustics with boutique lodging and cultural authenticity.

Industry Implications

  1. Boutique Hospitality — Accommodation offerings that integrate professional recording facilities and bespoke sonic environments appeal to artist-residents and high-end cultural travelers seeking immersive stays.
  2. High-end Audio Engineering — Signal chain designers and acoustic consultants can expand into adaptive hardware and room-surface systems that deliver configurable reverberation and immersive-format tuning on demand.
  3. Cultural Tourism — Destination experiences anchored by architecturally distinctive studios and local materiality create new draw for culturally minded visitors and artist-led programming.
