SOUR has unveiled Pur, a residential recording studio and boutique hotel located on Cunda Island along Turkey's Aegean coast. This project combines vernacular masonry and timber construction with world-class acoustic engineering to create a facility capable of accommodating up to a 75-piece orchestra.
The building features a glass fiber reinforced concrete shell that marks a dramatic transition from the island's traditional architectural calm into a highly tuned recording environment, with live rooms containing sliding partitions and rotating height-adjustable ceiling panels that allow musicians to tailor reverberation times and reflection patterns for different needs. The recording studio layout boasts two echo chambers, a Dolby Atmos theater, a mastering suite, and variable acoustic surfaces.
SOUR also noted that for Pur, it engaged in a co-creation process with international and local musicians.
