Ahead of Easter this year, The Royal Mint created a limited-edition rabbit coin based on a beloved literary animal. In addition to being appropriate for the arrival of spring, the all-new Peter Rabbit 50p coin also helps to mark the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter's birth. As a tribute to the author, the rabbit coin features an illustration of her own creation.
The release of this commemorative item is part of an ongoing mission from The Royal Mint to make collectible coins more popular among the public. In the past, some of its other special releases have included 12-sided coins, ones that mark the Chinese New Year and others that are extremely small in comparison to regular pieces of currency.
