This is what the Oscars on Twitter Looked Like Throughout the Night
Jennifer Paul — March 4, 2014 — Pop Culture
EverYone knows that Ellen's Oscars selfie broke Twitter history but this is what the Oscars on Twitter actually looked like. The Oscars on Twitter was bigger than ever before this year.
Twitter's data team took the time to create an animated map so that you are able to see where geographically the tweets were coming from. It collapses all the geotagged tweets that feature the hashtag #Oscar2014. If you sent a tweet using that hashtag you would have been geographically calculated into the shimmering lights.
All the tweets that were gathered were from the four-hour show that aired and then condensed into 50 seconds. You will notice that most of the tweets come from the U.S, Western Europe and South America. If you look closely you may be able to see the Twitter feed go crazy when Ellen DeGeneres shared her magical Oscar selfie.
