This Infographic Explores News Statistics About What Readers Like

 - Dec 4, 2012
There are so many outlets for news delivery these days that it's interesting to analyze news statistics to see what topics best connect with readers. This infographic by NPR Digital Services looks at the top nine categories of news items in terms of reader engagement.

Coming in at number nine is a surprise: awe-inspiring visuals. This isn't surprising because it's on the list; it's inspiring because it's so low on the list. Number eight, provocative controversies, also seems like a very popular news topic that most would assume lands higher on the list.

Number seven in this news statistics infographic is "topical buzzers," which capitalize on popular themes of the day or season. The list finishes with feel good smilers, breaking news, news explainers, curiosity stimulators, crowd pleasers and place explainers.
