For Christmas this year, the Marie Curie charity (which provides support for people with terminal illnesses and their families) will be launching a "memory-powered" Christmas tree in the UK that will be illuminated by people sharing fond memories across social media.
Using the #LightUpXmas hashtag will make it possible for people to see the lights on the tree shine brighter where it will be installed just in front of the London Eye.
The social media-connected tree offers a way for passersby in the area to partake in the celebrations of the season and make their city a bit brighter in the process. While there are many interactive social media-powered installations that have been created in the past, most of them hinge on directly rewarding an individual; the #LightUpXmas tree promises to help participants brighten an entire community.
