Trulia's New Feature Will Show Home in Areas with LGBT Protections

Real estate listing app Trulia will now show LGBT protections info along with every property listing. The new features, dubbed Local Legal Protections, is set to outline all of the nondiscrimination laws in effect in the property's surrounding area. The data for this feature comes from the nonprofit Movement Advancement Project. This feature was first explored during and internal hackathon at the company, and was quickly put into full development after the debut.

This LGBT protections feature implemented in Trulia is a remarkable innovation that fill a void in the housing market. Currently, there are no laws that protect LGBT people from housing or employment discrimination, so municipal laws tend to govern these issues. Trulia's new feature will help greatly in making sure member of the LGBT community are aware of the protections offered to them in any area, and can make the moving process that much easier. Tulia is hoping that the information garnered from the LGBT protections feature will help in the future development of similar features for other protected classes.
