With Black Friday occurring on November 25th, #GivingTuesday follows it on November 29th. Now entering its fifth year, the campaign aims to promote a charitable culture at a time when many consumers find themselves overtaken by a culture of materialism.
By participating in #GivingTuesday, consumers are able to spread some of their savings by donating to those in need. In order to allow them to do this, #GivingTuesday involves a number of different non-profits, all of which have a vision to make the world a better place. Although the organization encourages donations, it also invites consumers to simply use their voice to spread word of its efforts to help strengthen the movement.
As the organization states, #GivingTuesday "brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners -- nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals -- to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness."
