Video Platform-Integrated Fact Checking

YouTube Added Fact Check Panels for Users in the U.S.

YouTube recently added fact check panels to the platform for users in the United States. The fact check panels will debunk misinformation from searches that contain false information. The panel can help stop the spread of misinformation that occurs alongside the outbreak of COVID-19 when conspiracy theories surrounding the virus have emerged. Overall, it is clear that YouTube is the initiative to inform users about potentially misleading, or false information.

The panels will source information from third-party publishers, that follow the standard and ethics of the International Fact-Checking Network. In order to launch the feature, YouTube partnered with Fackcheck.org, PolitiFact, as well as the Washington Post. Additionally, false claims will be tagged using the ClaimReview system.
