Yamaha has announced that its PED1 and PES1 electric motorbikes will be released sooner than expected. Yamaha initially said the bikes would be released within the next couple of years, but now says they will be released 'in the near future.'The PES1 is very much a road-friendly electric bike, while the PED1 looks to take electric biking off-road.
The bikes share the exact same electric motor, battery and central frame segment. The bikes' subframe and shock layouts bolt on the central frame. The front ends of the bike bolt on behind the headstem, with each bike featuring a unique steering geometry.
The road-friendly PES1 electric motorbike is belt-driven, while the PED1 is chain-driven. Both bikes can safely be described as feather-light, with the PES1 weighing in at just 85 kg and the comparatively chunkier PED1 off-road bike weighing 100 kg.
