For his latest series, Eisen Bernando pairs fine art with contemporary magazine covers. The project, fittingly tiled 'Mag+Art,' features covers from Vogue to Rolling Stone; celebrities from Demi Moore to Lana Del Rey; artists from Boticelli to Klimt.
Convinced that magazines are inspired by classical art, Bernardo set out to do some investigative work. In other words, this project serves as a comparison of what art, fashion and beauty looked like then and now. What are the similarities? What are the differences? Have women remained our cultural muses? Are these covers considered art now? Will they be considered art one day?
The Philippines-based multimedia artist seeks to answer these complex questions with his series, while simultaneously offering an interesting and amusing visual.
