The Edmonton Transit System recently rolled out a plan to use solar energy to power several Edmonton bus shelters.
While the plan was explored several years ago, it was not until recently that the technology had advanced enough for the solar-powered bus shelters to be able to function properly in the cold and dark weather that the Albertan city experiences. The bus shelters advertising sections are being featured alongside solar panels, making the advertisements visible at night while also adding an extra urban security feature to the bus stops.
