The CityAirbus Project Imagines a Future of Flying Public Transportation

Cities are becoming more and more densely populated around the world, and the CityAirbus project from Airbus Group hopes to eventually ameliorate the transportation issues that come with that density. Like something out of the Jetsons, the CityAirbus project is a future plan to implement flying passenger transport vehicles within urban centers.

Though the idea has been played to the point of cliche in science fiction, flying transport vehicles have clear benefits. Like skyscrapers that add living space by building upwards, flying taxis and other flying vehicles could significantly reduce ground traffic congestion in cities.

The CityAirbus project does not yet have completed vehicle designs. Nonetheless, the project's managers believe that the system will begin by using paid pilots before switching to an autonomous system once appropriate regulations are in place.
