Joby Aviation, a venture-backed Santa Cruz, California-based company that has been dedicating resources and energy towards the development of electric VTOL crafts that are capable of operating as aerial taxis, has made history by rolling out its first production grade prototype unit which is set to undergo flight testing.
The 'S4' is an electric VTOL that utilizes six massive propellers to be able to take off and land vertically, eschewing the need for a long runway. Once ready to fly, this electric VTOL shifts its propellers forward, at which point is capable of cruising and attaining speeds of over 322 km/h with a range of around 240 km.
Offering five seats, this particular electric VTOL could revolutionize air-bound commuting by making it more accessible, whilst offering a zero-emissions route of transportation that is also a lot less noise-emitting than helicopters.
