Anne Carrier Architectes has completed Résidence Saint-Damien — a family home on farmland in Saint-Damien, Quebec. The structure draws attention as a long, linear volume that fragments in response to the river's curve.
Anne Carrier Architectes integrated a natural stone base at ground level with vertical wood cladding on the upper level that mimics the texture of tree bark. A covered terrace extends along the main façade, vertical slats filter light, and a continuous clerestory glazing band beneath a slender wood decking roof maintains visual connection with the sky and surrounding forest.
The Résidence Saint-Damien project demonstrates that it is possible to build a substantial family home without dominating the site. All in all, the structure’s volume hovers above the landscape, the base is made of natural stone that anchors the building to the ground, and the upper cladding echoes the surrounding tree bark.
