Ann Sacks' Hand-Scratched Sculptural Ceramics Use Sgraffato
Marissa Brassfield — June 28, 2009 — Art & Design
These gorgeous 3D wall tiles are made by Ann Sacks. Each sculptural tile is made using the Italian scratching method of sfgraffato--a move that means no two tiles are exactly the same.
There are three different styles: Nautilus, Botanical and Dahlia. Each Ann Sacks tile can be applied either horizontally or vertically, allowing the consumer to further personalize their space.
Implications - This trend is showcasing that consumers are looking for revivals of home decor products. Wallpaper has been around for decades and by creating an uplifting invention from an ordinary product it breathes a new light into home decor and gives more customization for homeowners. Designers should be looking to bring new life to ordinary products.
