Berlin-based AiServe is hoping to improve the lives of the visually impaired with its new assistive walking AI. Founded in 2017, AiServe has been aiming to build a machine learning system that “learns how to walk like a human” since its inception. Essentially, the system runs on a wearable camera, microphone, and battery. The setup will then ingest visual data and over time will be able to recognize sidewalks, corners, and pathways with improved confidence.
All of this information will then be run through the computer's vision algorithm which will provide navigational voice commands to the wearer. AiServe hopes that this will improve travel for the visually impaired and will become more tailored to the individual user's experiences.
