QR Contact Codes

WhatsApp is Testing QR Codes for Users to Scan in Order to Add Contacts

WhatsApp is now testing a feature that lets users add contacts by scanning a QR code. Users can add contacts through their settings which displays a small QR code, which another user can scan to receive their number and ID. QR codes can also be revoked at any time, allowing users to distance themselves from individuals they do not want to interact with and prevent abuse on the platform. It is unclear as to whether WhatsApp will add the feature to the app, however, it could streamline the process of adding a new contact.

WhatsApp also previously implemented QR codes for logins to the online app. This shows the platform is familiar with implementing the technology to a large number of users.
