American brick manufacturer The Belden Brick Company has created a captivating custom sawtooth brick shape which is the main focus of the One Park Point building. It is a new residential tower located in Brooklyn and this project was tapped by the tower's designers at architecture firm FXCollaborative. The goal was to create a rich brick facade with a visually bold look in a cost-efficient manner.
The shape brings a sense of depth and complexity to the building. Tabitha Alleshouse, business support specialist and manager of architectural shapes at Belden Brick notes, "We are continually pushing the boundaries of what's possible with special shapes. Transforming simple geometric lines into architectural statements is where function meets artistry," she continued. "While we've previously explored projections in brickwork, the sawtooth design – especially executed in multiple colours – marked an exciting first for us."
