12 Sewing Social Businesses

From Enterprising Confidence Workshops to Fairly Traded Fashion Lines:

The industrialization of the clothing industry has meant that more traditional forms of design and manufacturing have gone by the wayside but these sewing social businesses are bringing new life to the craft. Many of them work with co-operatives in less-industrialized countries in order to create, aid and sustain economic independence and development.

Sewing social businesses work in many instances because the consumers attracted to social responsibility aren't simply looking for a cheap price or a simple design but rather they're also considering the story behind the product. How was the product made? Where do the profits go? Who makes the product? What percentage does the producer or artisan make? This is one reason why companies are including stories of the creators themselves, something like a little profile that makes it more social.
