This week marks the Occupy Wall Street Anniversary for the first time. Though the winter season and police forces helped break up the physical occupation in cities across America and the world, the idea behind the movement still persists. Issues of fairness in tax law, income inequality and corporate greed were just some of the issues that the Occupy protests wanted to bring attention to.
With the US presidential election fast approaching and with the economy as the number one topic on peoples’ minds, the issues that the Occupy Movement wanted to address are now at the forefront of American politics. After election day in November there will be a new balance of power in Washington, and only then will it begin to get clearer what action, if any, will be taken on these issues.
Occupy protesters made use of many different ways to protest. From dressing pets in protest signs to decorating money with information on income inequality, the Occupy protesters did a great job of getting their message out to the 99%. Now we just have to wait to see if the Occupy Movement can continue spreading its message even after it hit its climax.
