Pedestrian Viaduct Extension

The Albi Footbridge Redefines Mobility & Views Along Historic Viaduct

The Albi footbridge redefines mobility and views along the historic viaduct by suspending a lightweight steel path from the side of a nineteenth-century railway structure. Designed by Ney and Partners, the six-hundred-foot bridge connects the city’s historic center with suburban developments while maintaining the visual prominence of Albi’s UNESCO-listed heritage. The path flows in gentle undulations that echo the rhythm of the viaduct and incorporates scenic belvederes under each arch, encouraging pedestrians and cyclists to pause and enjoy framed views of the old town.

Beyond improved connectivity, the bridge revitalizes public space and strengthens the urban fabric. Cantilevered from the downstream side of the viaduct, it provides seamless passage across the Tarn River for both walkers and cyclists. The project integrates historic infrastructure with contemporary design, enhancing mobility while celebrating place, memory, and the experience of traversing between city and landscape.
