Villa Boë in Indonesia Turns Steep Slope Constraints into Design Advantage

— September 15, 2025 — Art & Design
The Villa Boë in Indonesia turns steep slope constraints into a design advantage through architect Alexis Dornier’s work in Lombok’s Tampah Hills. The 1,151-square-metre home is arranged as stacked volumes that climb the incline, each positioned to capture views of the coastline, gardens, or surrounding mountains. Geometric circles and radiating lines guide the layout, while teak wood overhangs, pale stone floors, and white walls integrate the house with its natural setting.

The layout unfolds vertically with the garage at the base, shared terraces at the middle level, and two-bedroom wings above. At the top, a circular deck is dedicated to yoga and relaxation, while a pool traces the hillside to reinforce the connection with the terrain. Large overhangs and cross-ventilation keep interiors cool in the tropical climate. By embracing topography rather than resisting it, Villa Boë demonstrates how constraints can inspire expressive and environmentally responsive architecture.
