'Verne: The Himalayas' is Google Maps' answer to the popularity of Pokemon Go. But rather than teaching kids about all the characters in a fictional universe, Google's new VR app aims to provide information on real aspects of the mountain range that runs across Central Asia.
In 'Verne: The Himalayas,' kids play as the eponymous character, a 500-foot-tall yeti who adorably explores the region. Using Google Maps' 3D mapping technology, Verne can run through actual Himalayan topography. As kids run, hang-glide and jetpack their way around the region, they run into cartoon depictions of real animal species that they can learn about through interaction.
The kids app is a great opportunity for children to engage with a format they already love and learn while doing it.
