Uniuni Coffee in Nanjing, China boasts a unique cafe design created by 'dongqi Architects' that clearly separates the physical space into a theatrical "stage" and "backstage" area for behind-the-scenes operations.
Uniuni has been recognized by the World Barista Championship and it offers a distinct perspective on coffee retailing. The interior of the physical space embraces open-frame fixtures that are far more open than conventional coffee shop designs. Unlike many cafes that maximize the available space with wall storage units and shelves, Uniuni Coffee implemented a clean design with hidden doors that set a boundary within the space.
Throughout the unique cafe design, pops of red can be seen on accessories and suspended ceiling elements to create unity within the largely open-concept and airy feel of the interior.
