Designers Chris Connell and Kerry Phelan collaborated to create this twisted staircase design as the focal point of the Melbourne Medibank building. The idea emerged from the desire to keep employees stimulated and active. Each floor is a drastically different color such as bright blue, vibrant orange or fluorescent pink.
Through the combination of staircases and ramps, the building encourages employees to use standing desks and increase their physical movement. To ensure this happens, the design incorporates indoor quiet areas, group areas and WiFi-enabled balconies. There are 26 different areas to work from.
To make this building even more amazing, each twisted staircase leads to a sport area at the bottom and a demonstration kitchen. There is an importance on bringing the outdoors indoors by also including as much foliage as possible and connecting a bike ramp to the street level entrances.
