Scottish craft beer company BrewDog has released the world's first transgender beer called 'No Label'. The beer is made with Jester hops and has been known to change sex during the brewing process. Traditionally, only female hop plants are used in brewing, with male hop plants are discarded because they do not grow into full cones. Recognizing this, BrewDog worked with a hop farmer to obtain bines that had undergone this change and grew male flowers.
These flowers were used in the brewing process, rather than thrown out. Essentially, No Label beer will include hops that have undergone a sex change prior to harvest.
More importantly however, proceeds of the transgender beer will go to LGBT events organization Queerest of the Queer. The funds will then be divided amongst charities supporting young people who struggle with gender identity.
