Color-Shifting Art Museums

Team BLDG Designs the The Quartet – Songzhuang Z Museum

Shanghai-based architectural firm Team BLDG designs the Quartet – Songzhuang Z Museum. It is a textile gallery made in a repurposed house in a remote mountainous village. This is notably the first modern museum in a rural Chinese area dedicated to weaving. It draws inspiration from the design of village homes and the museum is vertically sectioned into four staggered structures.

The lead architect of the project at Team BLDG, Xiao Lei speaks more about the design, noting "To visually lighten the mass of the original building, we took inspiration from traditional textile weaving. Aluminium square tubes measuring 20 millimetres by 40 millimetres were painted red on three sides and white on one, then arranged into a fine lattice that wraps the entire facade."
