The Park Union Bridge is located in Colorado Springs. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the 250-foot-long looping bridge connects America the Beautiful Park to the US Olympic and Paralympic Museum. The new construction acts as a celebration of the country's national athletes.
Spanning an active railyard, the bridge boasts two interlocking loops of steel, which are arched to form a window that frames views of the surrounding landscape. By nightfall, the walkway is illuminated by bright lights. The bridge was prefabricated in Houston, Texas, and driven up to Colorado Springs on self-propelled modular transporters designed to carry large and heavy loads. Modules were then welded together and hoisted into place over an eight-hour period.
