The newest alarm clock, called the Flip, was designed by a London based design practice DesignWright for French design company Lexon.
Inspired by previous attempts at producing apps that try to act like an alarm clock via gestural user interfaces, the designers utilize the user interface of the previous apps. After the designers discovered that the seven type segments that function as digital numbers are proportional, they realized that the device could potentially be flipped upside down to be turned off, and to snooze, users simply tap the surface of the clock.
“We thought it could be interesting to use this for an alarm clock, where instead of trying to find a small button in the dark to turn the alarm on or off, you just turn it over and the time flips as well,” says designer Adrian Wright of DesignWright.
