The Ardagh Group, a Luxembourg-based producer of glass and metal products, recently announced the launch of its new, ultra-lightweight aluminum cans.
The new aluminum cans boast a seven percent decrease in weight from its predecessor. In addition, the manufacturing process will save over 3.3 million hectoliters of water. Ardagh Group's newest packaging innovation will still offer consumers the same benefits of traditional cans as the cans can still withstand the same pressure of carbonated drinks.
The launch is part of the company's broader commitment to reducing carbon dioxides emissions, and the new production process will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 28,000 tons. The lighter weight of the cans will also decrease transportation-related emissions, further increasing its environmental benefits.
