Tomasz Ciurka recently began designing a series of geometric wall decals that draw inspiration from tangram puzzles. Traditionally tangram puzzles consist of a number of flat pieces that fit together to create different shapes and designs. Ciurka's work draws on this beloved game as inspiration for his unusual animal designs.
The Krakow-based artist uses a series of wooden pieces to create the silhouette of different animals. While Ciurka largely focuses on wild animals such as foxes, wolves and raccoons, he also features domestic animals as well. Despite the fact that the animal heads are perfectly symmetrical, the grain of the wood gives each piece a unique texture. The overall effect is an intricate wall decal that mirrors the artistic geometry of a tangram puzzle.
