The Grapefruit Flavored Beverage Features the Stars of 'Splatoon 2'

For the month of July, Kirin Mets, a popular Japanese diet beverage, will be offering its grapefruit-infused drinks with a special limited edition Splatoon 2 label.

The popular team-based Nintendo game will be advertised through this medium to attract its targeted demographic of Japanese youth. Each bottle features one of five designs, all of which feature an animated star from the video game. The bottles are harmonious in the sense that when all five are collected, a single image is formed.

The pungent grapefruit flavor has been favored among Japanese youth since its conception in 1979 -- the cola was named after 'Tokyo Mets,' a "fictional baseball team that was the focus of a manga series which was popular among the youth at that time."
