Modular Demounted Timber Furniture

William Floyd Maclean Created the Modular Somer Collection

Somerset-based designer William Floyd Maclean is the creative mind behind the Somer collection that is set to launch at the London Design Festival. The capsule is comprised of freestanding demountable wooden cabinets that can be disassembled for modular formation. Somer was created by the designer and his team at their Frome workshop with the goal of disrupting the "highly wasteful status quo of mass-market furniture products."

What results is a range of multipurpose timber kitchen units that are made with FSC-certified wood. All of the units are made from solid wood frames with CLT panels and fronts. Maclean shares with Dezeen, "Unlike conventional flatpack fittings, which frequently fail following initial assembly, we use mechanical fixings designed to endure years of use. They are integrated and can easily be replaced if required, and crucially, they can be removed and recycled once the product reaches its end of life."
