Editorial Intern alumni Erin Kirkpatrick knows the importance of bringing social awareness to the forefront of society, which is what her favorite trend, interactive social activism campaigns tries to accomplish. Her choice of trend highlights her concern for social issues while her hope that mandatory mid-day dance parties will become a norm in offices indicates her fun-loving nature.

What is your favorite trend and why?

My favorite trend is interactive social activism campaigns. It allows people to get involved versus simply looking at a campaign. They can actually be a part of it and see it happen right in front of them. A perfect example of this is phone-enabled violence. This allows you to drag this violent man away from this woman. So, in essence you are able to separate this abusive husband from this victimized wife, which is really great. You can use your phones to actually drag this man away.

How do you define cool?

I define cool as anything that isn't on the front page of the website. You really have to dig deep for those awesome trends, which is something you want to tell everyone about. Just as long as it isn't mainstream and not a lot of people have heard of it, it is cool.

What is your favorite part about working at Trend Hunter?

My favorite part about working at Trend Hunter is the community. Everyone is so supportive and constantly giving great feedback about how I can improve my trends. I am already seeing an improvement so I really like that everyone works as a team and looks out for one another.

How do you reset to be creative?

The way I reset to be creative is kind of embarrassing, but I put on the Rocky theme song when I can't figure out what I want to write about. It always motivates me.

What is your favorite accomplishment?

Getting the Trend Hunter internship because it is extremely competitive, so I was really happy when I got the call back.

Predict something awesome for 2020?

Something I could see that would be awesome in the future is mandatory mid-day dance parties at work. I feel like that is a great way to de-stress, and who doesn't love to dance!

What advice would you give to the business world?

My advice to the business world would be not to get too comfortable with the products they make and constantly innovate and expand so they can be ahead of the curve and have an advantage over everyone in the business world.

What is the most remarkable way you see businesses changing?

The most remarkable way I see businesses changing is that it will be much less hierarchical. It is going to very community based and it is not going to be one person telling everyone what to do. It's going to be a collective effort similar to Trend Hunter. It will be more supercharged and innovative.

Any last thoughts about Trend Hunter?

If you are looking for a really great experience, a really good team dynamic, an awesome place to work and a place where you get to write about awesome things all day then I would recommend checking out the Trend Hunter internship. I did and I don't regret it at all so take my advice, it's good.
