Alibaba's logistics branch Cainiao recently introduced a smart warehouse concept which will run at its Huiyang, Guongdong location in China.
"According to Alibaba, it’s home to the largest population of mobile robots in China. There are over 100 AGVs (automated guided vehicles) in the warehouse, which occupies approximately 3,000 square metres." Replacing traditional factory workers, these intuitive machines are designed to be wifi-compatible, can carry up to 600 kilos of weight, and move faster than their human counterparts.
Known for its quick delivery turn-around times, Alibaba ensures that online shoppers access their orders in no time, with the help of robots that pick up and prepare orders before they are packaged and shipped to consumers' homes -- a final step conducted by the smart warehouse's human staff.
