The Chinese architectural company TOWOdesign has managed to create an innovative smart apartment, located in the middle of busy Shanghai, that is designed to be able to maximize its highly compact surroundings by utilizing an array of special boxes that allow for living spaces to be efficiently arranged without cramping up the space.

This smart apartment makes use of four boxes, each of which serves different functions such as sleeping, entertaining, cooking and bathroom use. Each box features all the amenities required to carry out that particular task, while a variety of space-saving designs are incorporated, such as the elevation of the sleeping box and the rotation of each box by 10 degrees in order to encourage airflow.

With Asian mega-cities offering very little space for apartment-dwellers, the likes of TOWOdesign prove that smart apartments are a great way to enjoy city-dwelling in spaces that aren't expansive.
