Layered Wood Flagships

SKIN1004 First Nyc Store Features a Stacked Wood Retail Interior

SKIN1004 first NYC store occupies nearly 9,900 square feet across two floors at 470 Broadway in New York, where LMTLS Architecture transformed the SoHo space around a continuous sculptural millwork installation. Named the Nature Wall, the feature is constructed from two-inch-thick layers of ultralight MDF wrapped in stained maple veneer, integrating seating, product displays and the sales counter into a single topographic form. The entrance opens into a double-height lounge after the existing second floor was removed, while ceiling heights compress toward the checkout before expanding into a gallery-like rear chamber.

The stepped millwork references eroded sandstone formations and was fabricated by Gilbert and Adirondack Studios through individually cut and assembled layers. A nine-foot-tall Mirror Wall extends the length of the store, visually doubling the sculptural installation within the narrow floor plan. Diffuse lighting from Cooledge is integrated into the ceiling and casework, while the rear space includes a 12-foot mirror, an LED media wall and a photo booth.
