As a lover of modern furniture design and of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe especially, I firmly believe that the iconic Barcelona Chair cannot be improved upon. However, the Serralunga Barceloneta Chair is an incredibly elegant piece that I feel deserves great credit for its grace and contemporary clarity.
Conceived in collaboration with Deep Design, this recliner mimics the shape and composition of the 1929 Knoll original. The molded polyurethane pad emulates the L-shape of the earlier leather-upholstered backrest and seat. What's different here is an exaggeration of the subtle curves. This quality is carried through the sinuous metal frame of the new model, which appears to offer some flexibility. The more slender Serralunga Barceloneta Chair is capable of withstanding the elements so that it can furnish indoor and outdoor spaces fabulously.
