Abstract Toy-Inspired Lamps

Sculpted Light by Mari Isopahkala is Modelled After Building Blocks

Sculpted Light by Mari Isopahkala, a freelance designer based in Helsinki, Finland, is a collection of table, floor and ceiling lamps that are inspired by such childhood toys as LEGO and Kaplas. It is hard for these playthings not to come unbidden to the mind considering the use of bright primary colors and wooden materials. Not to mention the abstract nature of the designs as well.

Particularly influenced by the De Stilj movement, the Sculpted Light by Mari Isopahkala focuses on boxy proportions that is perfect for modern living spaces. The designer writes, "The collection will draw new kind of visuality to the space and introduces sophisticated solutions of new forms in todays light design." Although the lamp designs are practical, they can easily be treated solely as works of art.
