Organically Shaped Shadow Lamps

The LOOPS Lamp Sculpts Plaster-To-Sisal Shadows Dynamically

The LOOPS lamp sculpts plaster-to-sisal shadows dynamically for a dramatic lighting effect. Designed by Taeg Nishimoto, this sculptural piece combines untwined sisal loops hardened with fabric resin and wrapped in quick-setting plaster. The assemblage naturally connects at touching points, suspended above a concrete base on slender steel rods—each prototype unique in form and scale.

By day, the texture of plaster-coated loops appears muted and monolithic. Once lit, the embedded floodlight transforms walls and ceilings into intricate landscapes of shadow and light. At approximately 40–50 cm wide and 70–80 cm tall, the lamp becomes an interactive art installation that responds to placement and perspective. LOOPS challenges typical lighting aesthetics, using humble materials to create expressive, organic environments that command presence while blending craft, architecture, and light in harmony.
