The Brick Light is a modular lighting object by O_1 Design composed of brick-shaped blocks that emit a soft internal glow and are intended to create an ambient light source with a tactile interface. Each unit maintains equal proportions and a subtle textured surface that echoes the geometry of a traditional brick, with flame-retardant polycarbonate material diffusing light evenly through the form.
The lamp is designed without conventional switches; rotating a block 90 degrees activates a sleep timer with preset durations, and flipping it upside down initiates a gradual fade-to-dark mode. Physical interaction is integral to the experience, with users encouraged to manipulate the blocks directly rather than rely on app-based controls. The assembly of three stacked modules forms a compact lighting composition suited to nightstands, desks, or shelves.
The internal structure uses a support and suspension system that enables modular stacking while maintaining form stability. Functional responsiveness and geometric simplicity are emphasised over decorative detailing, reinforcing a design approach that prioritises immediate physical engagement.
