Rustic Scottish Holiday Homes

GRAS' Chic Renovated Design Relies on Contemporary Minimalism

Edinburg-based architecture firm GRAS was commissioned to update the aesthetic of this cozy Scottish holiday home. Dubbed the 'Kyle House,' the structure is positioned in the Scottish Highlands and is surrounded by tranquility. In an attempt to transfer this to the interior of the dwelling, GRAS focused on deriving ideas from contemporary cultures and minimalist appearances. The studio worked alongside Ruth Kramer — Wildland's head of design.

The firm began with "an empty shell" that is estimated to date back to the late 19th or early 20th century. The interior was updated and "completely modernized," boasting a rustic and minimalist aesthetic that has been referred to as "monastically simple." This renders the Scottish holiday home a balanced and uncluttered experience that only relies on bare essentials.
