Textured Flat Renovations

The La Casita Introduces a Material Focused Redesign with Visible Craft

The La Casita renovation reworks an Edinburgh flat using reclaimed materials and a design approach that highlights texture and imperfection. The project replaces standard surfaces with salvaged timber, repaired floorboards, and uneven plaster finishes that retain marks of previous use. Built-in furniture is shaped to the existing geometry of the flat, with shelves, benches and storage units constructed to follow irregular walls and corners. The palette uses natural wood tones and muted colours, so the focus stays on material character rather than added decoration.

The lighting is arranged to create soft illumination that brings out the depth of the surfaces. Translucent shades and indirect fixtures help cast a warm glow across the textured walls and timber. Original room divisions remain, but each space is given distinct detail through handcrafted elements. The design embraces wear, repair and visible history as central qualities, creating a quiet interior defined by authenticity and everyday comfort.
