Autonomous Racing Leagues

Roborace Hopes to Normalize Autonomous Vehicles Through Racing Sports

Roborace is hoping to further spread awareness around autonomous cars by launching the world's first race series using only self-driving cars. To launch this new racing series, Roborace unveiled its latest prototype, the DevBot 2.0, which still features a cockpit for a human driver. The inclusion of a driver is not final for the series but a human is still being included in this prototype to ensure vehicle failure does not occur.

The first season of Roborace will be dubbed Season Alpha and will feature humans and machines working together. The races will be run using lap times, set by both the human driver and autonomous car. The cars will not race wheel to wheel, as they do in conventional races, in an attempt to ensure driver and vehicle safety.
