Wavy Shelf Systems

The Ripple Shelf is a Tool-Free Height-Adjustable Wooden Shelving Unit

The Ripple Shelf is a wooden storage unit defined by vertically rippled side panels that function as an integrated adjustment system. Designed by Ermin Alić of Dilema Studio, the shelving structure replaces conventional brackets and rails with sculpted wave-like supports. Each shelf slots directly into the undulating grooves, which act as fixed positioning points across the frame. The system removes the need for additional hardware, with the adjustment mechanism embedded into the form of the side panels.

The unit is constructed from beech wood and includes fixed top and base shelves for stability, with adjustable middle tiers arranged between them. The rippled surfaces create a repeating profile across the height of the frame, forming both a structural and visual element. The shelf is produced in multiple sizes and finished in color options such as terracotta, sage green, slate blue, and natural tones, each treated with a solid stain that retains visible wood grain.

Integrated Adjustment Systems
Embedding adjustment mechanics into structural form allows tool-free reconfiguration and supports scalable, user-driven customization of products.
Sculptural Functionalization
Design elements that double as load-bearing and adjustment features turn visual motifs into performance-critical components, shifting value toward form-function integration.
Color-finished Natural Materials
Visible wood grain treated with solid stains creates premium, tactile finishes that align aesthetic variety with sustainable material transparency.
