Rather than having to wait until the spring for suitable conditions for driving his RC 3D-printed vehicle, Daniel Norée found a way to apply winter race car tires to the unit.
Since snow chains are often added to tires in order to maintain traction in slippery winter conditions, this is what inspired the form of the 3D-printed tires. As a result, the form of these tires provides incredible grip and makes it possible for the tires to perform as if they were working on clear roads.
While this concept is now only being explored on a remote control car, this could be a precursor to the car tire designs of the future. As the founder of the Open RC 3D-printed vehicle project, Norée's OpenRC F1 race car and winter tires can be downloaded via Thingverse.
